IMPLATS` 11 SHAFT RE-OPENED                                                     
Impala Platinum Holdings Limited (Implats) advises the company`s 11 shaft       
will reopen today, 7 June 2002. This follows the temporary closure of the       
shaft announced on 3 June 2002 to assess the extent to which teams were         
working to standards and procedures.                                            
Implats CEO, Keith Rumble noted that it was found that overall safety           
standards were well maintained, although some improvements in rock              
engineering standards have been identified.                                     
"The focus on safety for the week and particularly the re-instruction of        
teams will go a long way toward reinforcing the right safety culture at         
Impala. This is in line with our commitment to eliminating accidents and        
achieving higher standards in health and safety."
