FINAL UPDATE - FATAL INCIDENT AT IMPALA PLATINUM`S 14 SHAFT                     
Yesterday Implats announced a major fall of ground incident which occurred at   
approximately 12:00pm on 20 July 2009 in one of the mechanised panels at 14     
Shaft in Rustenburg. Sadly, we are now in a position to confirm that all nine   
employees trapped by the rock fall were fatally injured and have been recovered 
from the shaft complex.                                                         
We are presently in the process of informing the families in consultation with  
the National Union of Mine Workers.                                             
We have set aside Friday, 24 July 2009, as a day of mourning across our         
Operations.
