Management
Mr Phillip Whitome, B.A. Hons (Japanese) (First Class)
Philip Whittome joined Investec Asset Management in May 1996, and is now in charge of Japanese equities. Philip has a Double First Class Honours Degree in Japanese from Cambridge University, and speaks, reads and writes fluent Japanese. His previous experience includes eight years with Barings, three of which were spent in Japan, and two years with Industrial Bank of Japan.
 
Focus and Objective
The fund aims to achieve capital appreciation through participation in the growth of the Japanese economy by investing in shares and other equity investments of major Japanese companies. Typically, the companies in which the fund invests are quoted on the First Section of the Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya Stock Exchanges, although a small proportion may be invested in shares and other equity instruments of smaller Japanese companies quoted on other Japanese exchanges selected for their growth potential.
